Narok Albinism Association

Narok Albinism Association – Empowering Lives, Promoting Inclusion

Welcome to the Narok Albinism Association (NAA), a community-based organization committed to advocating for the rights, inclusion, and empowerment of persons living with albinism in Narok County, Kenya. We believe that every individual, regardless of skin tone or condition, deserves equal access to opportunities, healthcare, and education. Our mission is to create a society that values diversity, protects human dignity, and promotes the full participation of persons with albinism in all areas of life.

At Narok Albinism Association, we work tirelessly to challenge stigma, discrimination, and harmful myths surrounding albinism. Through advocacy, awareness, and education, we aim to transform societal attitudes and ensure that people with albinism are respected, accepted, and supported. We collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and partners to implement sustainable programs that address the real needs of persons with albinism and their families.

Our advocacy work focuses on promoting equal rights and access to essential services. We engage in public awareness campaigns, policy dialogues, and community outreach to influence positive change. By speaking out against discrimination and educating society about albinism, we are creating safer spaces and building understanding that fosters inclusion.

Education is at the heart of our mission. We believe that knowledge is power, and by empowering children and youth with albinism through education, we give them the tools to shape their own futures. The Association supports learners through mentorship programs, scholarship linkages, and advocacy for inclusive learning environments that accommodate their visual and health needs. We also work closely with teachers and parents to promote understanding and support for children living with albinism.

Health and well-being are equally important in our work. People with albinism face unique medical challenges, especially related to skin and eye care. Our programs provide access to sunscreen, protective clothing, eye checkups, and health education to prevent skin cancer and other conditions. We collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure our members receive the care they need to live healthy, dignified lives.

Economic empowerment is another key pillar of our work. We train and support youth and adults with albinism in vocational skills, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy to help them achieve independence and stability. By creating opportunities for economic growth, we break the cycle of poverty and dependency that often affects persons with albinism.

At the Narok Albinism Association, we envision a future where everyone is treated with respect, love, and equality. Our dream is to see a community where persons with albinism can live freely, safely, and confidently—without fear of discrimination or exclusion.

We invite you to be part of this movement for change. Whether by volunteering, donating, or partnering with us, your contribution makes a difference. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive Narok where every person with albinism shines.

Interntional Albinism Awearness Day

Celebrating Inclusion, Dignity, and Empowerment

International Albinism Awareness Day was established by the United Nations in 2015 to draw attention to the discrimination and human rights violations faced by persons with albinism worldwide. The day also serves as a platform to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of individuals with albinism in our communities.

In Kenya and other parts of Africa, persons with albinism have often faced deep-rooted stigma, myths, and misconceptions that lead to exclusion and marginalization. This global observance reminds the world that people with albinism deserve to live safely, confidently, and equally—with full access to health care, education, and opportunities to thrive.

Our Thematic Areas

At Narok Albinism Association (NAA), we are committed to building an inclusive and just society where persons with albinism can live with dignity, safety, and opportunity.
Our work is guided by five key thematic areas that form the foundation of our programs and interventions. Each area addresses the real needs of persons with albinism and strengthens our mission to promote equality, awareness, and empowerment across Narok County and beyond.

Inclusion and Empowerment

We believe that inclusion is the foundation of empowerment. Persons with albinism deserve to be recognized, respected, and fully integrated into all aspects of community life. Through our inclusion programs, we create opportunities for meaningful participation in education, leadership, and economic activities.

Our initiatives focus on:

  • Promoting social inclusion in schools, workplaces, and public spaces.

  • Encouraging leadership among youth with albinism.

  • Partnering with county and national stakeholders to ensure policies and programs reflect the voices of persons with albinism.

We envision a community where no one is left behind, and every individual—regardless of appearance or condition—can thrive with confidence.

Advocacy and Awareness

Advocacy lies at the heart of our mission. We work to amplify the voices of persons with albinism and challenge the myths, misconceptions, and discrimination that still persist in society.

Our advocacy and awareness efforts include:

  • Public campaigns to educate communities about albinism as a genetic condition.

  • Policy advocacy to promote inclusion and protection of persons with albinism.

  • Media and school outreach programs to reduce stigma and foster understanding.

We believe that awareness creates acceptance, and through our advocacy work, we are changing perceptions and shaping a society that values and respects diversity.

Education and Empowerment

Education is one of the most powerful tools for transformation. At NAA, we strive to ensure that children and youth with albinism have access to quality, inclusive education.

We support learners with albinism through:

  • Scholarship and mentorship programs.

  • School sensitization to promote inclusive learning environments.

  • Advocacy for accessible learning materials and visual aids for students with visual challenges.

By empowering young people with knowledge, skills, and confidence, we nurture a generation of leaders and change-makers who will continue to advocate for equality and justice.

Health and Wellness

Persons with albinism face unique health challenges, especially regarding skin and eye care. Our Health and Wellness program promotes access to essential health services, preventive care, and wellness education.

Our interventions focus on:

  • Providing sunscreen, protective clothing, and hats to reduce the risk of skin cancer.

  • Organizing free eye checkups and dermatological clinics.

  • Educating members and communities on sun protection and skin care practices.

  • Linking persons with albinism to local health facilities for ongoing medical support.

Through these efforts, we aim to ensure that persons with albinism lead healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives.
